Boatmasters’ Licence – ancillary training courses
South West Maritime Academy are proud to be one of the few UK training providers offering the full three courses required for the Boatmasters’ Licence ancillary training as a 3 day package.
The ancillary training courses are one of the elements you are required to complete as part of the process of applying for the MCA Boatmasters’ Licence, giving you the basic skills required to exhibit an understanding of essential safety when using a vessel on the inland waterways.
Further details on what other prerequisites you will require before applying for your Boatmasters’ License can be found below.
The full Boatmasters’ Licence ancillary training course package runs over three days, commencing with the First Aid element, moving on to the Fire Safety course and finishing with the Water Safety element. However, these courses can also be booked individually and run over a day each per course.
The Boatmasters’ licence (BML) is needed for passenger and non-passenger, commercial vessels that operate on inland waterways and certain coastal areas. It is a requirement as defined under the Merchant Shipping regulations, which came into force in 2007. In order to Master a vessel, commercially in categorised waters, you must be qualified under the BML Regulations.
