Description
The Updated Proficiency in Advanced Fire Fighting is a comprehensive, one-day classroom-based course designed for seafarers who have a fire fighting role on board a vessel.
This theoretical course focuses on higher-level shipboard fire fighting operations, including the use and management of fire fighting parties, as well as the inspection and maintenance of all fire fighting systems and equipment. The training goes beyond the basics to prepare you for a leadership role in fire-related emergencies.
Key Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, you will achieve the following four key learning outcomes:
-
Outcome 1: Control Fire Fighting Operations: You will learn how to take charge of and effectively control fire fighting operations, both when the vessel is at sea and while it is in port. This includes strategic decision-making, allocating resources, and coordinating with other crew members to contain and extinguish a fire safely and efficiently.
-
Outcome 2: Organize and Train Fire Parties: This module equips you with the skills to organize, train, and lead a ship's fire party. You will understand the proper roles and responsibilities within the team and learn how to conduct effective drills and training exercises to ensure the crew is prepared to respond to any fire emergency.
-
Outcome 3: Inspect and Service Fire Systems and Equipment: You will gain the knowledge required to conduct routine inspections and service fire detection and extinguishing systems. This includes ensuring all equipment, such as fire extinguishers, hydrants, breathing apparatus, and fixed systems, is in proper working order and meets all safety standards.
-
Outcome 4: Investigate and Report on Fire Incidents: You will be trained in the essential skills needed to investigate the causes of a fire and compile a detailed, accurate report. This is a crucial skill for preventing future incidents and for providing necessary documentation for regulatory and insurance purposes.
This course is also available as part of our STCW2010 4-Day and 5-Day Update Packages, which are ideal if you need to refresh multiple STCW certifications at once.
Note: It is critical to remember that completing this course does not remove your separate obligation to update your original STCW Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting certification every five years. This advanced course is a supplement to your basic certification, not a replacement for it.
Prerequisites
To attend this course, you must have previously completed the STCW Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting course.
