Description
This course, a crucial component of STCW Basic Safety Training, is designed to equip you with the essential skills and knowledge needed to survive an emergency at sea. Often referred to as Sea Survival training, this module is one of two that requires STCW 2010 Updated certification every five years to ensure your skills remain current and effective.
Key Learning Objectives

Emergency Preparedness: You'll learn how to identify and react to various onboard emergencies, including collisions, fires, and sinking. You'll also become familiar with the different types of life-saving appliances and equipment found on ships and in survival craft.

Practical Survival Skills: Through hands-on exercises, you will master the principles of personal survival. This practical instruction includes:

Donning personal safety gear like a lifejacket and an immersion suit.

Safely entering the water from a height.

Righting an inverted life raft while wearing a lifejacket and immersion suit.

Keeping afloat and swimming while wearing a lifejacket.

Boarding a life raft from both the ship and the water.

Survival Craft Operations: The course also covers critical actions to take once you've boarded a life raft to maximize your chances of rescue. You'll learn how to properly stream a drogue or sea anchor and operate various location devices, including radio equipment.
By successfully completing this update course, you will be prepared to take immediate and effective action in a survival situation, greatly enhancing the safety of yourself and others on board.
Prerequisites
To be eligible for this course, you must meet one of the following criteria:

You are a seafarer with at least six months of sea service before August 1, 1998, and were previously exempt from basic safety courses.

You hold a valid Certificate of Proficiency in Personal Survival Techniques and have maintained the necessary skills through a combination of onboard training and practical experience. You will be required to complete a self-declaration form to confirm your competence in all listed areas.
Note: Certificates of proficiency issued by other maritime administrations are acceptable.
