The focus will be upon shipboard fire fighting operations and the use and management of fire fighting parties, as well as inspection and maintenance of fire fighting systems and equipment on board.

The STCW 2010 Updated Proficiency in Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting course is designed to ensure seafarers can competently fight fires at sea. The training covers the use of various firefighting equipment, including portable and wheeled extinguishers, hoses, and nozzles. It also focuses on how to extinguish different types of fires as part of a team and includes practical experience using breathing apparatus (BA) to perform casualty rescues and fight fires in smoke-filled environments.

The STCW Personal Survival Techniques course (often referred to as Sea Survival training) covers all the essentials for dealing with a survival situation at sea.
